Mahousekai no Uketsukejou ni Naritaidesu: Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Half a year since my enrollment into this school.

Classes are quite fulfilling, and that’s a really good thing since I want to study a lot.

And rather than having one teacher teach all classes, each subject is taught by teachers who specialize in those fields, so classes are really easy to understand. Above all else, because they’re people who know all that is to know about that subject, there’s nothing left unanswered even if they’re questioned for more details.

Seriously, I’m really glad I’m a student here.

“G’morning, Nike.”

“Morning, Nanalie… Your hair, it’s really wild, y’know.”

“Geez, you’re a girl!” Saying that, Nike starts to unravel my hair before the white washbasin.

She’s changed into her clothes for today, unlike me who’s still in my pajamas. Her yellow one-piece is really bright for my eyes.

“Thanks.”

Gazing at her through the mirror, I say my thanks.

This girl, Nike, is a commoner who’s also my roommate in the dorm. Her blonde hair is really pretty, and rather than cute she’s more the beautiful type. But it seems like she prefers being called cute, and usually ties her hair into two.

Well, no matter her appearance, I think that part of her is really cute.

We were really awkward with each other when we first met, but after half a year we naturally opened up (since we’re living in the same room and all), and now I’m friends with almost all commoner children in school.

Maybe I should say it’s as expected. There’s something like a sense of unity between us as fellow commoners, so even though we’re placed in different classrooms, our aim is one, or something like that.

And of course that aim is ‘Down With The Nobles!’

We put our hand in front of our chest and just stares at that one star.

“What, is Nike playing mother again?”

Another kid in our room, Benjamine, approaches the washbasin while brushing her beautiful wavy red hair.

She’s a girl wearing quite revealing clothes. Generously showing off her legs, she has a green cloth around her waist that drapes down, and going by only her appearance she gives off an onee-san feeling. Her legs are slim and pretty.

I live in the girls’ dorm, and we have three children in one room.

The dorms seem to differentiate between noble and commoner children, so the last girl in our room, Benjamine, is of course a commoner.

Though I say differentiate, I don’t think the interiors are different, just that nobles aren’t put together in a room with commoners.

And I think that’s a correct decision.

“Nanalie, I think it’s better if you put effort into being a girl too, rather than just caring about studying.”

Benjamine, shut up.

“Well, anyway, if you don’t hurry for breakfast, you’re not gonna have time.”

“No way, it’s already this late!?”

I move my head away from Nike’s hands when I heard that.

Nike protests that she’s not done yet, but when I touch my hair I find smooth and soft hair, so it’s enough.

My dark brown hair that’s not completely black is shining below the sun.

Yep, friends overflowing with girl power are must haves.

“Mmm, yummy!”

We walked together and reached the big cafeteria.

As expected of a place called ‘big’, it’s really spacious. But it’s just the right size since students of all years, from those in their last year to us first years, come together for breakfast.

It’s a buffet style meal where we take what we want and sit anywhere we like. One table can sit six to seven people to one side, and many of those tables are lined up in order.

Putting veggies and main dishes to our plates, we then sat on the open table near the exit of the cafeteria.

The roof is made of glass so we can clearly see the sky above.

It feels like we’re outdoors and that’s a really great thing.

“Benjamine! I brought that!”

“This is what happens when you don’t hurry up and eat it.”

“You jerk!”

“Hey, don’t splash that gravy around!”

I stab the fried rabbird with my sharp tableware. It’s my favourite.

Rabbird is the name for a species of long-eared, light blue birds.

As for why they’re light blue, some say it’s because they’re too frequently hunted by humans and other creatures, and so they evolve and camouflage themselves with the same colour of the sky.

It’s hard being rabbirds. To think they have to change their colour in order to live.

But they’re too juicy and delicious so it’s their fault.

“The gravy got onto my clothes!”

“Oh no! Sorry.”

“Aaah, my clothes…”

Some rabbird juice got onto Benjamine’s green waist wrap, making a beautiful line. A work of art, if I do say so myself.

But the girl who’s coming after me with a demonic face, complaining, “What to do, it’s really expensive!” doesn’t seem interested in that. Her voice is also gradually losing its strength.

She may have reached her boiling point.

“Why did you wear something you don’t wanna dirty to this kinda place? If you don’t wanna stain this one, come with another clothes!”

“What are you saying, Nike! You’re so cold!”

“Uuu, but seriously, I’m sorry, Benjamine. Later, I’ll learn the magic to clean this up prettily, okay!”

“Wha, no, you don’t need to go that far.”

We have no uniform here. The only thing we have is our student ID.

Of course, commoners usually wear the clothes they already have, choosing anything they like. Nike usually wears short one-pieces with rounded lapels, and similarly I wear one-piece clothes with a belt or something like that. Benjamine likes to be fashionable so what she wears are usually different by day.

Benjamine likes to say we’re lacking in sex appeal, but we don’t need something like sex appeal to study so I don’t care. I really don’t.

In the first place, we’re twelve. What are we doing, worrying about appearance now?

Well, I think it’s different for nobles though.

‘Coz it concerns their families’ dignity, or so I heard.

But she, Benjamine, already has someone she likes here, so that might be related to how she’s so conscious about her appearance.

“Ah, it’s Nal-kun!”

“Again with Saturnus? You really like him, huh.”

A silver-haired boy passes by the dining table. Benjamine brightens her eyes and excitedly calls his name. Seeing that, Nike who’s sitting in front of her comments astonishedly.

The boy Benjamine likes is that Nal-kun. Apparently she fell in love at first sight, and felt destiny the moment her eyes met his (according to Nike).

The silver-haired boy Benjamine is crazy about. His name is Nal Saturnus.

He’s the other commoner kid in my class.

Sorry for the wait! And I’m sooo sorry it’s so short T.T (around a third of the chapter). I’m still working on the latter part for now, hopefully I’ll be able to post it soon. For the meantime, here’s chapter 3 part 1 :)
